Travel Consent Letters

It’s summertime, so international travel has increased. With all the enjoyment and fun, a bit of planning before the trip will ensure “smooth sailing”, or should I say “smooth flying”? For a variety of reasons, travel consent letters may be required, as an example if 1 parent will be taking a child abroad, so the other parent may need a document providing his/her consent for the trip. In general, a travel consent letter is a document where one or both parents give permission for their child to travel with another person or group, such as the other parent, a grandparent, or a school trip.  It’s a way to show that a child is traveling with someone who is authorized to do so. A notarized letter of consent/authorization must be apostilled. As always, the notarization must adhere to the guidelines in order for the Secretary of State’s office to provide the apostille.
